ITV had the early 7pm kick off as Brazil demolished Poland - Careca's fourth of the tournament tying him for the Golden Boot - while the BBC had the late game at 11pm with Argentina winning through a tough battle.

By now, it was twigged that we were heading for an Argentina-England showdown just four years after the Falklands war.
