World Cup 1986 - Day Eighteen

Tuesday 17 June 1986

Second Round
France 2 Italy 0
Platini 15, Stopyra 37

Second Round
West Germany 1 Morocco 0
Matthaus 87

Again it was ITV's turn for the early kick off at 7pm and France booked a quarter final with Brazil by seeing off Italy.

On BBC at 11pm and Morocco, the surprise winners of England's group, battled well but went down to a late West German goal. The wait for an African world cup quarter finalist goes on. Amazingly this was only the fourth goal in four games from West Germany.
