World Cup 1986 - Day Seven

Friday 6 June 1986

Strangely BBC continued showing only parts of games - at 7.40pm, the second half of Brazil beating Algeria 1-0 was followed by highlights of Hungary defeating Canada.

Not a great performance by one of the favourites but Brazil had now got their place in round two. Hungary had improved their chances but had a tough game against France to come.

A late night for England fans, as ITV had the game for an 11pm kick off. A dreary game and another poor performance saw Bryan Robson go off inured and Ray Wilkins get sent off for throwing the ball at the referee. Two games, one point, no goals - yet another England disappointment was on the cards.

World Cup 1986 - Day Six

Thursday 5 June 1986

Into the second set of games we go. ITV had the big name game, as Italy and Argentina battled for a 1-1 draw live, while showing highlights of France and the Soviet Union also drawing 1-1. Argentina, France and the Soviet Union now looking comfortable for the second round.

Oddly the BBC's coverage only came on at midnight for the last half hour of Bulgaria v South Korea. Bulgaria did not take their chance with only a draw, with Argentina to come!
